More and more manufacturers of performance cars have, in the past few years, decided to equip them with turbocharged engines. While the wide-spread adoption of forced induction has resulted in more powerful cars than ever before, it has also left many cars not sounding quite as good as their naturally aspirated predecessors.
Sure, the fluttering and whistling sounds made by turbos is not always bad, but if you have an eight-cylinder, for example, you’ll probably just want the throaty engine and exhaust note that V8s are famed for. Fortunately, the C8 Chevrolet Corvette has one of these old-school notes.
Powering the new Corvette is a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 and this compilation video reveals just how good it sounds. Is it as good as the C7 Corvette Stingray? We’re not so sure, but it certainly sounds a lot meaner than many turbocharged sports cars on the market.

This clip includes footage of C8 Corvettes both with stock exhaust systems and aftermarket ones. Regardless of what type of exhaust the sports car has, it sounds fantastic and just how a proper Corvette should sound.
Before long, the C8 Corvette will sound even better thanks to the arrival of the long-awaited Z06 variant. All current indications point towards this model using a high-revving 5.5-liter V8 with a flat-plane crank, making it sound more like a European supercar than a car built in the United States. It will have approximately 600 hp, and while that’s less than the 650 hp-strong C7 Corvette Z06 with its supercharged V8, we think the new Z06 will prove to be a hit.
