A 1988 BMW M3 Evo II E30 will hit the auction block on Monday, June 29 and truly is the stuff of petrolheads’ dreams.
The E30-generation BMW M3 is widely considered one of the best M cars ever and prices have been on the rise in recent years. Following the introduction of the ‘regular’ E30 M3, BMW introduced the Evolution I soon after and in March 1988, launched the Evolution II, complete with a host of upgrades.

This being an Evolution II, it is powered by a naturally aspirated four-cylinder rated at 217 hp and coupled to a five-speed manual transmission. Upgrades came in the form of alterations to the Bosch engine management system, new pistons, a lighter flywheel and a more efficient air intake. The car also came with larger 16×7.5-inch wheels with 225/45 tires.
A host of visual changes also make the M3 Evolution II stand out, including thinner glass and lighter bumpers.
The car spent many of its formative years in the hands of German owners before being exported to the UK in the mid-1990s. The engine was rebuilt 3,000 miles (~4,800 km) ago and, all up, the car has 125,620 miles (202,165 km) on the clock. While that is a lot, the car has a comprehensive documented service history and looks to have been well cared for. Beyond the few marks a car of this age picks up, The Market listing says there are a pair of small rust spots under the front windscreen rubber that need repairing.
