When you film as many hours of footage as Richard Hammond did back in his Top Gear days, it’s highly unlikely that you’ll ever be able to use all of it on-screen, given the limited runtime of the episodes.
This also applies to special edition episodes, like the Polar Special from 2007, which is the first show that popped into Hammond’s mind when asked to look back at scenes he regrets never actually made it on TV.
For those of you who haven’t seen it or simply don’t remember, the Polar Special saw Jeremy Clarkson and James May attempt to reach the North Magnetic Pole in a Toyota pickup truck while racing against Hammond who traveled by a dog sled.

Even though we did get to see the presenter struggle as he attempted to master the sled, his most severe “tumble” didn’t make it past editing, and neither did his arrival at a Polar research facility after getting lost – a location which he describes as “like being on the moon.”
Since we don’t want to give too many spoilers, we’ll just add that he also talks about his best memory from filming both Top Gear and The Grand Tour, as well as his favorite segment of TV he ever made. He concludes by talking about some of his worst memories, which may or may not include insects.
He also answered a more direct automotive question, regarding Bugatti reaching 300 mph and this “arms race” between carmakers to be the fastest in the world.
If you’re a fan of Hammond, Clarkson and May, you’ll be glad to know that the trio already finished their latest special for The Grand Tour, dubbed the Madagascar Special, which will stream on Amazon Prime, hopefully sooner rather than later.
“If you want to know when the next Grand Tour is out, please don’t ask us, we don’t know,” stated Clarkson just last week. “Amazon Prime know, they have it, it’s finished, it’s done, it’s filmed, it’s edited, it’s graded, it’s ready to go. It’s up to them when they put it out.”
