The all-electric Rivian R1T is promising to be a pickup truck unlike any other to come before it and in this video, we get a glimpse into the trucks’ ongoing testing regime.
Even though the R1T has yet to hit the market, it is arguably the vehicle responsible for the current fascination among established automakers and startups with electric pickup trucks. Rivian had intended on starting customer deliveries of the R1T before the end of this year but the coronavirus pandemic means it will likely be delayed until 2021.

This video shows a camouflaged R1T prototype undergoing tests both on and off-road at a testing facility in Arizona. The clip includes some epic footage of the pickup sliding through the corners of a dirt test track before it is taken along an off-road trail and driven up and down tricky paths covered with large rocks. Towards the end of the video, Rivian shows off the truck’s abilities to powerslide around corners even on a racetrack with tarmac.
It’s clear that Rivian is looking to make the R1T not only extremely capable but a pickup that you can also enjoy driving on the limit.
A handful of variants will be offered, all with four electric motors. Sitting at the base of the range will be a 402 hp and 412 lb-ft (560 Nm) strong R1T with a 105 kWh battery pack. A long-range model with 700 hp and 825 lb-ft (1,120 Nm) of torque and a 180 kWh battery pack will be perfect for those who want to go on long journeys. Rivian will also sell a performance model with a smaller 135 kWh battery pack and delivering 754 hp and 825 lb-ft (1,120 Nm).
