The e-Golf Won’t Build Itself So VW Will Let You Lend A Hand If You Pay Them

Volkswagen’s Transparent Factory in Dresden, Germany is offering visitors the opportunity of helping build the e-Golf.

Following the program dedicated to customers who have ordered an e-Golf, plant visitors can get even closer to the EV’s production process as of today. The new ‘Mach-Mit’ (German for ‘Join In’) production experience allows them to accompany the vehicles along the production line for a while.

Guided by Volkswagen employees, visitors can help out at up to five different stations. Those include attaching the e-Golf logo, the so-called ‘marriage’ of the powertrain and body, the installation of the taillights, and the fitting of the radiator and radiator grille with the brand logo.

VW plans to offer the experience package from 2021 also on the ID.3, which by then will be produced in Dresden as well, in addition to existing production in Zwickau. The Transparent Factory has been offering e-Golf customers the opportunity to accompany the production of their own vehicle since early 2019.

“Following the success of our production support for customers, we are now giving visitors the opportunity to experience electromobility up close and personal – and to put it to work themselves. This experience is something very special in the automotive world,” said Jens Schlender, Head of Production.

The ‘Mach-Mit’ production experience at the Transparent Factory takes place Monday to Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. It lasts around 2.5 hours and is limited to a maximum of four visitors per group. The price is €215 ($243) per visitor and includes a guided tour of the production and exhibition area as well as a welcome drink. Bookers will also receive a 10 percent discount on all items in the manufactory shop on the day of their visit.
