If there’s one thing Tesla has really made a name for itself with, other than actually making EVs cool and desirable, it is the unique features and Easter Eggs it equips its vehicles with. There is no better example of this than the innovative ‘falcon wing’ doors of the Tesla Model X.
When designing and developing its first all-electric SUV, the car manufacturer could have very easily decided to fit it with the conventional doors that virtually every automobile on the market has. However, Tesla instead decided to invest in rear doors that open upwards in a not too dissimilar way to gullwing doors.

The key difference between gullwing doors and falcon wing doors is that the latter are double-hinged and when working alongside a host of sensors, automatically adjust the angle at which they will open if there are cars parked next to you or if there is a low roof ceiling above the car that prevents them from opening to their full height.
Tesla didn’t stop there with the falcon wing doors and there’s a mode that owners can enable to have the wings flap up and down, as if they were the wings of a bird. This clip, filmed in Dubai, shows a fleet of Model Xs up and down in unison in what makes for a truly strange sight to see. Funnily enough, a black Model X featured in the video doesn’t join in with its peers with just one of its rear doors open and failing to flap.
