There’s a scene in Gone in 60 Seconds, where Kip Raines breaks into a Porsche dealership and steals a 911 by driving it through a window.
It seems a thief in O’Fallon, Illinois attempted to recreate that scene with a Dodge Challenger – and specifically, the new 50th Anniversary Edition. However, this car thief wasn’t exactly the sharpest tool in the shed.
As you can see in this picture uploaded to Reddit, by an employee who works at Auffenberg Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, the car thief attempted to drive the Challenger out of the showroom by going through the doors. This was a horrible decision as the car was too wide for the opening.

As a result, all the thief managed to do was smash the front end and wedge the car in the opening. The crash also damaged the doors and broke a lot of glass.
According to O’Fallon Police Captain Dave Matevey, the attempted theft happened on Wednesday morning when “suspects smashed out a large glass window to gain access to the dealership.” Following the failed attempt to steal the Challenger, the suspects apparently fled the scene.
Police don’t appear to have much to go on, but Matevey told the O’Fallon Weekly that several vehicles were broken into at a nearby Home Depot shortly before the attempted theft at the dealership. They believe both incidents were caused by the same people and they’re asking for the public’s help. It remains unclear if the suspects were caught on security cameras, but Matevey said they’re “actively investigating both incidents and are following up on leads.”
