The McLaren 720S may be one of the fastest cars on the market, but that fact didn’t dissuade a 78-year-old German from buying a 720S Spider last year.

Featured in the clip below is Henry Harrfeldt, a man with a serious need for speed that has some racing experience under his belt and also owns an AC Cobra and a Ford GT40. The 720S Spider looks to be the fastest car in his collection and he isn’t afraid of flooring the throttle and really putting it through its paces.

Driving the 720S is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that produces 710 hp and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque. This engine is coupled to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission driving the rear wheels and thanks to the car manufacturer’s expertly tuned software, it is capable of acceleration that pretty much matches the hybrid McLaren P1, a hybrid hypercar with roughly 200 hp more.

Harrfeldt says he drives his 720S Spider frequently and has racked up roughly 2,500 miles (4,000 km) behind its wheel.

Of course, it is not just insane performance that makes the McLaren so appealing to such a wide array of buyers. The 720S uses the British automaker’s advanced suspension system that makes it ride over rough surfaces reasonably well in its softest setting. When you’re well into retirement age, we suspect having a compliant suspension is very important. And when you feel like it, you can always switch those knobs and have immense amounts of fun.
