Alfa Romeo famously killed their most interesting models last year as the company revealed they were no longer planning 8C and GTA revivals.
The news was a saddening disappointment, but not totally unexpected as FCA’s five-year plans about are about as accurate as horoscopes.
While Alfa Romeo is dead set on pumping out more crossovers, thankfully the design community hasn’t forgotten what makes Alfa Romeo so interesting in the first place – sports cars.

That brings us to the Alfa Romeo x Montreal 2020 concept which was created by Yosuke Yamada, who is a professional automotive designer working for a Japanese OEM. Created in his spare time, the modern-day Montreal is a stunning two-door coupe which pays homage to the original from the 1970’s.
However, the car is far from retro as it features clean lines and a sleeker interpretation of Alfa Romeo’s styling language. As you can see, the model has a minimalist front fascia with slender headlights and a V-shaped carbon fiber grille. The V-shape is echoed on the hood which flows back to meet a rakish windscreen.
Elsewhere, the model has streamlined bodywork and muscular rear fenders. There are also aerodynamic side skirts, a flowing roof and five-spoke alloy wheels backed up by a high-performance Brembo braking system.
Continuing out back, there’s a concave rear fascia with stylish taillights that feature a carbon fiber surround as well as a turbine-like interior. There’s also a prominent diffuser and a center-mounted dual exhaust system.
Yamada told us he wanted to modernize the Montreal while also giving it a “simple, elegant and sexy” look that defined coachbuilt Italian concepts from the 1970’s. It’s hard to argue with that as “simple, elegant and sexy” is pretty much how you can describe the Alfa Romeo x Montreal 2020 concept.
