Chevrolet’s LT5 V8 engine is a beast out of the box out of the crate but expert GM engine builder Katech has just announced a heavily-modified version of the engine it dubs the ‘Track Attack.’
As standard, the LT5 6.2-liter V8 topped with a large supercharger and used in the C7 Corvette ZR1 pumps out 755 hp, which should be more than enough grunt for most. Not for Katech though.

Katech has overhauled the LT5 V8, with displacement rising to 388 cubic-inches (6.4-liters) while the compression has also been increased from 10.1:1 to 10.3:1. The engine also features CNC-ported cylinder heads with competition valves, new pistons from Diamond Pistons, and two supercharger choices, the first being Katech’s own unit and the second a Magnuson TBVS 2650.
Regardless of which supercharger customers opt for, the upgraded engine delivers 1,159 hp and 1,063 lb-ft (1,441 Nm) of torque. That’s roughly Bugatti Veyron Super Sport levels of power and also gives the LT5 more grunt that Mopar’s 6.98-liter supercharged Hellephant V8 crate engine that’s rated at 1,000 hp and 950 lb-ft (1,288 Nm) of torque.
Muscle Cars and Trucks notes that Katech has yet to announce pricing details for the Track Attack LT5 engine, although it certainly won’t cheap, especially when you consider that a standard LT5 is already priced at $18,811. The Mopar Hellephant sets customers back $29,995, but given the advantage in power, we wouldn’t be surprised if Katech’s engine costs a little more than that.
