2021 Acura TLX Type S Confirmed With 355 HP And 354 LB-FT Of Torque

The 2021 Acura TLX Type S is expected to pump out 355 hp and 354 lb-ft (480 Nm) of torque, the Japanese car manufacturer has revealed.

When Acura unveiled the new TLX back in late May, it did not disclose just how much power the performance-oriented Type S had up its sleeve. Fast forward to July and it has just released preliminary horsepower and torque numbers while announcing it will compete at the upcoming Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

In the same press release, Acura also said that a TLX Type S prototype will act as a pace car at the event. Meanwhile, two race-tuned 2021 TLX 2.0T models will compete in the event and be driven by Jordan Guitar and Justin Lumbard.

Powering the TLX Type S is a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that is coupled to a Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system. The sports sedan also uses a ten-speed automatic transmission and features four-piston Brembo brake calipers up front.

A plethora of visual modifications help distinguish the Type S from lesser TLX models. For example, it sports a blacked-out grille and a new front splitter while also sitting on a set of distinctive wheels. It also features a lip spoiler on the trunklid, a rear diffuser, and quad tailpipes.

With 355 hp and 354 lb-ft on tap, the TLX Type S matches up nicely against rivals such as the 360 hp Cadillac CT5-V and the 349 hp Audi S4, although it’s noticeably less powerful than the 382 hp BMW M340i.

The 2021 Acura TLX will land at U.S. dealerships this fall, with prices starting in the mid-$30,000 range.
