The Hyundai i30 N put the entire hot hatch market on notice when it was released a few years ago and an exciting new performance hatch is being developed by the South Korean automaker, this time dubbed the i20 N.
Our spy photographers have managed to snap the car out and about during testing in the past but this video provides us with our best chance to see it on the move at the Nurburgring and on the nearby roads. It looks to be an absolute ball to drive and has a nice raspy exhaust note.
It is understood the i20 N will feature a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces approximately 200 hp and funnels its power through the front wheels courtesy of a six-speed manual transmission. In all likelihood, a limited-slip differential will also be used to help the i20 N through the corners and make the most of its available traction.

We’ve spent quite a lot of time behind the wheel of the i30 N and have high hopes for its baby brother. If Hyundai gets the chassis balance right, it could be just as much fun to drive as the i30 N and should give vehicles like the Ford Fiesta ST and VW Polo GTI something to worry about. Hyundai will really be on to a winner with the i20 N if it has the same near-limitless array of driving mode customizations as the i30 N.
This prototype, much like others recently seen testing, benefits from some aggressive styling changes over the regular i20 N. Consequently, there’s a spoiler stretching off the roof, a distinctive front bumper with large air intakes, and a striking rear diffuser.
