The 2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertible is arriving in dealerships across the United States just in time for the summer.

Unveiled at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show, the LC 500 Convertible is more than just the open-top variant of the Lexus LC coupe. Lexus engineers enhanced its structural rigidity courtesy of an all-new torsion box at the rear, while a new suspension tower brace and V-brace are said to improve handling stability and linear responsiveness.

The chassis was further reinforced via Laser Screw Welding and the use of high-tensile-strength steel through the structure, as well as the relocation of various structural braces. The suspension has also been retuned to account for the changes in weight over the coupe, thus ensuring a “comfortable, yet sharp, road-going performance”.

The LC 500 Convertible comes standard with 20-inch cast alloy wheels, with 20- and 21-inch forged wheels also available. All models feature run-flat tires to eliminate the need for a spare tire, something that also allowed the engineers to shorten the rear overhang and save additional weight.

The LC 500 Convertible features a four-layer soft-top, which sports an innovative folding mechanism that includes a tonneau cover for when it is stored. The roof can be opened or closed at speeds up to 31 mph (50 km/h), taking only 15 seconds to open and 16 seconds to close.

Once closed, a tonneau covers the roof storage space to provide a weather-resistant seal from the elements. Lexus offers the top in two colors: Black and Sand. Each can be combined with eleven body colors, while the interior can be had in Black, Circuit Red or Toasted Caramel.

The LC 500 Convertible is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 making 471 horsepower at 7,100 rpm and 398 lb-ft (539 Nm) of torque at 4,800 rpm. Mated to a Direct-Shift 10-speed automatic transmission, the V8 enables the Convertible to do 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 4.6 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 168 mph (270 km/h).

The 2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertible is packed with features including a 10.3-inch multimedia display with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa integration, the Lexus Safety System+ suite, and much more. The LC 500 Convertible goes on sale this summer from $101,000 (excluding $1,025 destination), making it the priciest Lexus you can buy in the United States.

Interestingly, the range will include an LC 500 Convertible Inspiration Series based on the unique model that racked up $2 million at a Barrett-Jackson auction earlier this year. Only 100 units will be made, each featuring an exclusive Structural Blue paint job paired with an exclusive Bespoke Amalfi White semi-aniline leather-trimmed interior, Marine-colored soft top and pretty much all the available options. This model is priced at $119,800, excluding the $1,025 destination.
