In the months since the 2020 Chevrolet C8 Corvette started to reach the hands of customers, a small number have been involved in accidents. Most appear to have escaped without serious mechanical damage and we fully expect their 6.2-liter V8 engines to be saved and put to good use. The creation you see before you is perhaps the ultimate way the C8’s engine could be used for a custom project.
Eager to see how the LT2 could be put to good use in a restomod build, Abimelec Design has imagined it slotted under the skin of a 1965 Chevrolet Corvair.

The designer started off with the engine and the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission it is attached to before designing a custom engine cradle to support it, loosely based on the structure of a Porsche 550 Spyder. Next, Abimelec Design borrowed the pushrod suspension setup from the Koenisegg One:1 while also fitting a set of big brakes and wide rubber.
Sitting atop this engine and bespoke structure is a relatively stock Corvair body, finished in blue and offset by a carbon fiber front splitter and a set of black/silver wheels. One area of the design we are particularly fond of are the carbon fiber air intakes incorporated into the rear side windows and helping to give the V8 all the air it could ever need.
Could we see a restomod project like this actually coming to life? In all likelihood not, but it makes for an interesting exercise.
