Despite most countries adopting more relaxed measures after the major lockdown earlier this year, it’s obvious that the coronavirus pandemic isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, and it has already affected most business, including the automotive industry.

Most car manufacturers have posted big losses as most people are no longer interested in getting new sets of wheels, and auto show organizers have either postponed this year’s events or canceled them altogether. Now, another event has been terminated, the 2020 Nismo Festival, with Nissan making the big announcement today, Wednesday 22.

“The decision to cancel this year’s festival was made to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and protect the health and safety of fans, participating teams, exhibitors and Nissan and Nismo employees”, the Japanese automaker said in a short press release issued on Wednesday. “Nissan and Nismo will make every effort to further improve the event for next year and beyond, in the hope that more fans than ever will look forward to enjoy the Nismo Festival in the future.”

The same announcement was posted on the event’s official social media channels, with the promise to return for 2021 at full pace and gather more passionate people together – if the coronavirus or something else doesn’t throw a wrench in those plans, that is.

The 2020 Nismo Festival, which would have been the 23rd edition, was scheduled to take place on December 6 at the Fuji Speedway in Japan.
