Back in the late 80’s, Ferrari’s assembly plant in Maranello began putting together one of the most amazing supercars ever made in the mid-engine F40.
Today, its status as an automotive icon is undisputed, which is why anybody who’s lucky enough to purchase one needs to be willing to part with more than a million dollars. So yeah, this isn’t the type of car you’d generally want to see get damaged, especially if you’re the one driving it.
Unfortunately for everyone involved, the driver of this particular F40 apparently somehow lost control during what was alleged to be a test drive in Queensland, Australia. We haven’t confirmed this beyond reports from third parties, but the vehicle was wearing dealer plates in the pictures.
In any case, the driver took out several poles and knocked into a number of trees in a dramatic fashion, according to local authorities.

The incident reportedly took place on the Beaudesert Nerang Road near Canungra at about 11.30 AM local time. Thankfully, the car’s occupants weren’t injured in the crash, but whether or not the driver will be charged with any offenses, remains to be seen.

Images of the crash site have since been uploaded to social media, and as you can see, they pretty much speak for themselves. Some of the impacted poles were actually yanked straight out of the ground, which could mean that the driver may have been speeding.
According to Australian outlet Mercury, there are only two F40 models currently listed for sale in the country. One is in Sydney and the asking price is $2.39 million AUD ($1.67 million USD), whereas the other one is in Brisbane for $2.7 million AUD ($1.89 million USD).
They also claim that there are less than two dozen examples in Australia in total – minus one now, of course.
Ferrari built the F40 between 1987 and 1992, giving it a 471 HP 2.9-liter twin turbocharged V8 engine and a 5-speed manual gearbox. If you think that doesn’t necessarily sound like much by today’s standards, keep in mind that the Ferrari F40 weighs about as much as a Ford Fiesta.
