The previous-generation Ford Focus ST was overshadowed by the hardcore RS variant, but it wasn’t exactly a slouch as its turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine developed 252 hp (188 kW / 256 PS) and 270 lb-ft (366 Nm) of torque.

This made the car a fun little hot hatch, but it’s important to use that power responsibly. One owner didn’t get the memo and karma came almost instantly.

As you can see in this YouTube video, the driver of the Focus is stopped at a red light. While this isn’t unusual, they get a bit antsy and start revving their engine.

Before long, the driver does a weak burnout and drives through the intersection even though the light is still red. This is where things take a hilarious turn as the crossover in the oncoming lane is a Ford Police Interceptor Utility.

As the Focus reaches the end of the intersection, the officer turns on their lights and sirens, and makes a quick u-turn. The driver of the Focus probably utters a few choice words before pulling over and accepting their fate.

There’s no word on what happened next, but the incident reportedly occurred in Canada which takes a pretty dim view of hoonage. While there are a lot of unknowns, in Ontario, it’s a $260 CAD ($192 USD) fine for running a red light. Of course, the driver could also be slapped with other fines for their ill-conceived burnout.
