It feels like we only recently saw the first prototypes of the Bentley Bentayga out in the open, but that was more than 5 years ago, as production of the ultra-luxury SUV began back in late 2015.
In the meantime, the competition has expanded to include the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, so Bentley had to rejuvenate the Bentayga. And they did just that by introducing the mid-cycle refresh last week. In short, what the update brings is new looks on both ends at the outside, and some notable changes inside including an overhauled infotainment system and improved rear-seat accommodation.

In more detail, the exterior revisions at the front include sleeker headlights, a broader grille and a restyled bumper, all meant to lower the “visual mass” of the SUV. The profile has remained the same, bar the new ‘Flying B’ trim, but at the back is where the revolution takes place, as the automaker dropped the B-shaped taillights, replacing them with oval ones inspired by the latest Continental GT. The tailgate has a cleaner design, while there’s also a bigger rear wing, the exhaust tips have been simplified and the license plate holder has been moved to the new bumper.
Bentley claims that rear occupants have more legroom thanks to the new internal framework of the seats , while at the front, the center console has been revised. The central air vents have a rectangular shape and continue to flank the analogue clock, while further down, there is a new 10.9-inch infotainment system. The model also features a digital instrument cluster, as well as new upholstery and trim options.
The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 continues to pump out 542 HP (550 PS / 405 kW) and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque, but later on, the lineup will grow to include the plug-in hybrid and 6.0-liter W12 Speed variants.
Now, before Bentley allows journos to take the 2021 Bentayga out for a spin, we can take a more detailed look at the vehicle in the walkaround video that follows.
