Thought the McLaren 600LT was impressive? Well, the strictly-limited 620R takes on-track performance to a whole new level.
Unveiled late last year, the McLaren 620R is pretty much a road-going variant of the 570S GT4 race car and will be capped at just 350 units globally. As this video from on board a 620R at the Nurburgring reveals, it really is a race car for the road. This is particularly evident with just how loud it seems to be.
Slotted right behind the cabin of the 620S is the same 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine as the 570S GT4, pumping out 612 hp and 457 lb-ft (620 Nm) of torque which is actually more than the race car because it isn’t governed by any restrictions on power. McLaren says it’ll do 62 mph (100 km/h) in a mere 2.9 seconds, 124 mph (200 km/h) in 8.1 seconds and hit a top speed of 200 mph (322 km/h).

Coupled to the engine is a seven-speed Seamless Shift Gearbox (SSG) with ‘Inertia Push’ technology in the available Track Mode. This function converts built-up flywheel energy into a momentary burst of torque on upshifts. When driven in Sport mode, a loud upshift ‘crack’ is generated by a split-second cut of the ignition spark.
Various other upgrades are enjoyed by the 620R. These include race-derived suspension components, adjustable aerodynamic elements, and a beefed-up braking system. The large carbon fiber rear wing is perhaps the most striking aspect of the car’s design and in its most aggressive setting, delivers 185 kg (408 lbs) of downforce at 155 mph (250 km/h).
