While Porschephiles have been waiting with bated breath for the arrival of the 992-generation 911 GT3, the German automaker is rigorously testing the car at the Nurburgring.
For some time there had been speculation the latest-generation 911 GT3 would ditch its all-singing, all-dancing naturally-aspirated flat-six in favour of an engine using forced induction. Thankfully, that will not be the case as this video suggests that the prototype is outfitted with a howling flat-six free of any forced induction.

Specifics about this engine remain under wraps and won’t be known until the car is launched. However, it is possible it will be a revised version of the 4.0-liter mill powering the previous-gen 911 GT3 but fitted with a petrol particulate filter to lower emissions. It should pump out at least 520 hp and it is even possible the flat-six could swell to 4.2-liters in displacement. Whatever the case may be, we know for sure that it will sound good.
Customers will be able to opt between a six-speed manual transmission and Porsche’s quick-shifting PDK transmission.
Visually, the 911 will sport a host of new aerodynamic parts aimed at increasing downforce. Most notable on this prototype is a swan neck rear wing to help stick the driven wheels to the pavement. The car also sports air extractors on the hood and unlike the 991 911 GT3 RS, doesn’t not feature Turbo-inspired air intakes on the rear wheel arches.
