As Lucid Motors inches closer to unveiling the all-electric Air sedan in production guise, the car manufacturer has detailed the advanced driver-assistance system the car will feature.
Dubbed DreamDrive, Lucid’s driver-assistance system is made up of no less than 32 sensors, including various cameras, radars, and ultrasonic sensors as well as a long-range, high-resolution Lidar located in the nose of the car. DreamDrive will also feature an in-car driver monitoring system. System upgrades will be available over-the-air throughout the lifetime of the car.
In developing its suite of driver-assistance systems, Lucid worked with the likes of Here, Continental, and Bosch.
DreamDrive will support 19 key safety, driving, and parking assist features from the moment production of the Lucid Air begins with a further eight features expected to be available later through over-the-air updates. The system will be considered as Level 2 autonomous but is Level 3 ready.

Among the key features of the system include Full Speed Highway Assist with Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Centering, Traffic Drive-Off Alert, and Headlight Assist. There will also be an Autonomous Parking Assist, Pullout Control, and Maneuver Comfort Braking as well as key safety features like Surround View Monitoring, Cross Traffic Protection, Traffic Sign Recognition, and Automatic Emergency Braking.
“We have developed Lucid DreamDrive to be among the most advanced ADAS to ever be offered to consumers,” said senior director of ADAS and Autonomous Driving at Lucid, Dr. Eugene Lee. “By prioritizing safety and update ability, DreamDrive also sets the stage for offering increasingly sophisticated driver assistance features. We have ensured that the Lucid DreamDrive hardware and software platform not only offers a full suite of Level 2 features, but is also Level 3 ready, which means we’ll be able to quickly add features and functions over-the-air throughout the lifetime of Lucid Air and for future Lucid models.”
The production-ready Lucid Air will debut on September 9, 2020.
