Michael Fassbender’s ‘Road to Le Mans’ journey took him from Porsche’s entry-level racing program to the Porsche Sports Cup Deutschland, and soon, the European Le Mans Series.
Fassbender honed his skills using a 485 HP Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, but for Le Mans, he will need to become acquainted with Proton Competition’s No. 93 Porsche 911 RSR (2017-spec).
The Hollywood star/race car driver will share a cockpit with Porsche works driver Richard Lietz and Felipe Fernandez Laser.
“Even before I started acting I had a big dream to go racing. It was clear to be at a young age. My father was an avid driver and he taught me a lot,” said Fassbender.

By switching to the European Le Mans series, Fassbender is literally taking his motorsport career to the next level.
“It’s always wonderful to be able to tackle new projects. This is a very special one,” says Proton Competition team owner Christian Ried. “It’ll be interesting to see how Michael progresses. As a team, we’re delighted to be able to accompany him on his ‘Road to Le Mans’.”
Porsche will also provide Fassbender with a camera crew, with the second season of the “Road to Le Mans” documentary set to be released at the end of 2020.
The 2020 season of the European Le Mans series consists of six events, starting with a test day at Le Castellet (France) on July 15, followed by a race there on July 19. Next in line is Spa-Francorchamps (August 9, Belgium), then Barcelona (August 29, Spain), Monza (October 11, Italy) and Portimao (November 1, Portugal).
Fassbender will race in the LM GTE class, where each event includes a four-hour race.
