The coronavirus pandemic has cancelled a number of auto shows, but that didn’t stop the Chengdu Motor Show from kicking off earlier today.

While it’s not a hugely important event, Porsche used the show to introduce the entry-level Taycan. They also did it with flair as the debut model was given a Frozen Berry Metallic exterior which is sure to provoke love or hate reactions.

We’ll let you be the judge, but the car has a bubble gum pink exterior with five-spoke alloy wheels. Inside, there’s purple and grey leather as well as purple carpeting.

Putting aside the unique appearance, the entry-level Taycan has a rear-mounted electric motor that produces up to 402 hp (300 kW / 408 PS). It’s powered by a 79.2 kWh battery which enables the car to travel up to 257 miles (414 km) in the New European Driving Cycle.

Customers can also order a 93.4 kWh Performance Battery Plus which increases the range to 304 miles (489 km). This particular variant also has a greater output of 469 hp (350 kW / 476 PS).

Despite the varying specifications, both models can accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 5.4 seconds. They also have a top speed of 143 mph (230 km/h).

Speaking of performance, the Taycan comes equipped with a Porsche Active Suspension Management system. Customers can also order options such as torque vectoring plus, rear-axle steering and dynamic chassis control sport.

While it’s an entry-level model, the Taycan comes nicely equipped with 14-way power front comfort seats, a panoramic glass roof and a dual-zone climate control system. The lack of a front-mounted electric motor also means there’s a larger ‘frunk’ which can hold 17.3 cubic feet (491 liters) of luggage.

The entry-level Taycan is currently exclusive to China and pricing starts at ¥888,000 ($126,544 / £98,953 / €108,739)
