Sony took everyone by surprise at CES 2020, when they unveiled the Vision-S show car.
This advanced electric concept created with help from companies such as Bosch, NVIDIA, Continental and Qualcomm, has now arrived in Tokyo for further development, as a video released by Sony reveals.
Not only that, but it seems that the Vision-S might eventually help the brand enter the automotive realm, even though they have previously denied this rumor, as “the prototype vehicle is also currently under development for public road testing this fiscal year”.

A tad smaller than the Tesla Model S but with a longer wheelbase, the Vision-S is a four-seat fastback sedan, with two electric motors, one on each axle. They produce a combined output of 536 HP (544 PS / 400 kW), enabling a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint of 4.8 seconds and a 149 mph (240 km/h) top speed.
The driving range of the car remains unknown, but it does feature a Level 2+ semi-autonomous driving system, with solid-state LiDAR, ultrasonic and radar sensors, as well as an advanced camera monitoring system, cruise control, auto lane change and self-parking tech. The system supports over-the-air updates and 5G connectivity, so it could be improved to achieve Level 4 (or perhaps higher) self-driving capabilities, according to Sony.
For now though, it remains nothing more than a study that might or might not signal Sony’s intentions to take on the electric car world. But what do you think, is a production version on its way?
