Despite being one of the best affordable off-roaders, with a big fan base worldwide, the Suzuki Jimny has been retired from the United Kingdom.
The decision has nothing to do with sales numbers, as it is often the case, but rather with the CO2 emissions of the small 4×4, which does not comply with the latest regulations. In the most frugal variant, equipped with the 5-speed manual transmission, it emits 154 g/km, 59 more than the average fleet emissions that the company has to meet next year.
According to a company spokesperson cited by Autocar, the Jimny will be axed altogether “once existing and limited number dealer allocations to customers are fulfilled over the next 4-5 months”.

On a more positive note, it could return to the market as an N1 class commercial vehicle with no rear seats and perhaps other modifications, though this model has not been confirmed so far. A five-door version is rumored to be in development in Asia, with a longer wheelbase, but it won’t launch in Europe.
With the demise of the Jimny, Suzuki’s UK lineup will consist of mild hybrids only, including the Ignis city car, Swift and Swift Sport hatchbacks, and Vitara and S-Cross crossovers. The range will soon grow to include the Across, a rebadged Toyota RAV4 and Suzuki’s first ever plug-in hybrid, which combines a 2.5-liter four-pot with two electric motors and an 18.1 kWh battery pack for a 46-mile (75-km) EV range.
For now, the Jimny small off-roader remains on sale in other markets from mainland Europe, with the German website listing it from €20,373 ($23,004). Nonetheless, we would not be surprised if the automaker decided to pull the plug on it in the near future, even though official confirmation is pending.
CarScoops has contacted Suzuki to learn more about this and we found out the Jimny has indeed been retired from the UK, with the company only fulfilling the existing supply over the next 4-5 months. We have yet to hear back from the mainland Europe branch.
