Lamborghini’s decision to launch a Roadster version of the Sián is hardly a surprise given the buzz created by the hardtop last year.

Despite the inevitability of the model it is still quite a special thing, as these official videos of the car reveal. Whereas Lamborghini is building 63 examples of the Sián FKP 37 Coupe, the Italian marque will cap production of the Sián Roadster to just 19 examples. Put 19 and 63 together and you get 1963, the year that Lamborghini was founded.

Located beneath the engine cover of the Sián Roadster is a naturally-aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine that is joined by an electric motor incorporated into the transmission for a total of 807 hp. Lamborghini says the car will sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than 2.9 seconds and will be capable of over 217 mph (350 km/h) flat out.

What makes the Sián’s mild-hybrid system particularly interesting is the fact that it uses a supercapacitor that is three times more powerful than a lithium-ion battery of the same size, and three times lighter than a battery of the same power. The supercapacitor weighs just 34 kg (75 lbs) and can be charged every time the vehicle brakes. This stored energy is available as an instant power boost at speeds of up to 80 mph (130 km/h).

The presence of the hybrid system is also meant to smooth out gear changes thanks to the torque fill it provides. Lamborghini has not revealed how much the car costs but has confirmed all 19 examples have already been sold.
