The world has been waiting for the Mercedes-AMG GT R Black Series for a very long time, and if reports are to be believed, it could be revealed before the end of July.
As we eagerly await to see the car, a camouflaged prototype has been filmed doing the rounds on the Nurburgring. Despite the title of this video suggesting the car will have a four-cylinder, we know it will sport a twin-turbocharged V8 – although, admittedly, the engine and exhaust of this prototype do sound a bit muffled.
Our sources state the AMG GT R Black Series will benefit from a modified 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that it is expected to churn out in excess of 700 hp, making it significantly more powerful than the GT R Pro that’s rated at an already-impressive 585 hp. However, it is not just the engine that will really set the Black Series apart from the rest of the AMG GT range, but its aerodynamics too.

Adorning the exterior of this prototype are a host of bespoke parts that will increase downforce to make the car even more capable on a circuit. The most obvious addition is a towering rear wing that actually happens to feature a small secondary wing in between the blacked-out uprights. Moreover, the prototype has a beefed-up rear diffuser to provide extra downforce over the driven rear wheels.
The Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro is one of the fastest ever rear wheel drive cars to lap the Nurburgring and set a blistering lap time of 7:04.632 back in November 2018. It therefore possible that the much more powerful and aerodynamically efficient GT R Black Series could set a sub-7-minute lap.
