Toyota TRD Pro Models Gain Lunar Rock Colorway For 2021, Among Other Upgrades

Toyota’s TRD Pro lineup is ditching Army Green in favor of Lunar Rock for the 2021 model year. Other upgrades include all-new LEDs and alloy wheels for the 4Runner, and a debut date for the Trail Special Editions of the Tacoma, 4Runner and Tundra.

According to the Japanese carmaker, Lunar Rock should do a much better job than its predecessor at turning heads. Whether that’s true or not, it certainly does work with all those black inserts.

For the 4Runner, all grades now come with LED headlights and fog lights as standard, while TRD Pro variants maintain their current RIGID LED fog lamps for 2021.

Also new on the 4Runner are the black TRD alloy flow form wheels with Nitto Terra Grappler tires, as well as the re-tuned 2.5-inch Fox Internal Bypass shocks, which are said to provide “an improvement in trail driving isolation and high-speed performance without compromising on-road comfort and steering response.”

At the back, these shocks also feature piggyback-style remote reservoirs, which help to maintain damping performance on rough terrain.

Upcoming Trail Special Edition models

Toyota presented its Tacoma, Tundra and 4Runner Trail Special Editions at the Chicago Auto Show back in February, before the pandemic shut everything down.

These three models will be available starting this fall, and are based on the SR5 grade, featuring a choice of either 2WD or 4WD. While the Tacoma Trail is built on the SR5 Double Cab, the Tundra Trail is based on the SR5 Crew Max variant, with the SR5 Upgrade Package – meaning a larger fuel tank, front bucket seats with power lumbar support for the driver and a few other goodies.

Available color choices include Army Green, Cement, Midnight Black Metallic and Super White.
