The Corvette’s frunk is the subject of another recall and this one aims to solve reports of the front trunk lid flying open while people are driving.

As noticed by Road & Track, the recall blames drivers and says they “may overlook open hood alerts.”

If they fail to pay attention to the audible and visual warnings, GM says they can drive the vehicle at speeds which “increase the likelihood that the wind force is sufficient to inadvertently flip open the hood.” If this occurs, it could obscure the driver’s view in a scene straight out of Tommy Boy.

While the company is blaming owners for the issue, they’re going to update the Body Control Module to limit the Corvette’s top speed to 26 mph (42 km/h) when the frunk lid isn’t fully closed and latched. As part of the update, the car’s display will also provide a message indicating the speed has been limited due to the open frunk.

On top of these changes, GM will modify the key fob to “reduce the likelihood of inadvertent hood release actuations.” The company will also update release buttons in the vehicle to require a longer press and this will hopefully eliminate unintended openings.

The changes will be provided via an over-the-air update, although owners can also visit their dealership to have the update installed.

As we have previously reported, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration received at least eight complaints about the issue and a number of owners posted about their experience online. Several incidents have even been caught on video.
