Honda has unveiled its 2020 Civic Type R Pace Car which will lead the NTT IndyCar Series field at this weekend’s Bommarito Automotive Group race weekend at World Wide Technology Raceway near St. Louis, Missouri.
The Japanese automaker’s hot hatch is painted in a shade of Boost Blue and includes a bespoke graphics wrap with a white rear-end and a host of stickers. As with any Pace Car, the Type R also sports a host of flashing lights hidden beneath the front fascia and across the car’s rear.
Further modifications made by Honda include a Honda Performance Development brake package that includes competition discs, racing pads and stainless steel brake lines. There is also an interior roll cage and four-point racing harnesses.

“As the fastest production front wheel drive car in the world, the 2020 Honda Civic Type R is a perfect match for Pace Car duties,” vice president for Auto Operations for American Honda, Art St. Cyr said in a statement. “The race-bred 2.0-liter, direct-injected and turbocharged engine produces more than 300 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque, making it the ideal Honda vehicle for leading the NTT INDYCAR SERIES to the green flag.”
Honda has been providing pace cars to the IndyCar series since 2006 and this Type R includes all the same updates as the 2020 model year car that the general public can buy from Honda dealerships. Consequently, it includes an updated front fascia and also delivers slightly improved performance.
