The all-electric BMW iNext (a.k.a. iX or iX5 as some sources believe it will be called) has undergone a significant camouflage drop.
Several electric SUV prototypes were spotted with less camo than before, allowing us to spot more details. For starters, the BMW iNext finally features the production lights, both front and rear. Their outlines are clearly visible at the front, as are the outlines of the big kidney grilles with diamond shaped accents.
BMW recently teased the iNext’s grilles as production began in Landshut, Germany. The solid grille houses various radar functions, camera technology, and other sensors necessary for enabling Level 3 automated driving.

These photos also offer a good look at the front bumper, which looks sporty and features vertical vents in front of the wheels and a horizontal intake at the bottom. Seen from the side, the iNext looks like your average BMW SUV, while out back we can spot the slim taillights nicely integrated in the body.
We can’t decipher the final shape of the taillamps yet as they are partially disguised, though. Other details worth mentioning are the wide trunk opening and the 21-inch production aero-style wheels shod with Pirelli P Zero tires. Mind you, the US-spec prototype photographed on the trailer features Bridgestone tires instead.
Thanks to these images we also get a glimpse of the curved dash display which controls the entertainment system, augmented navigation, and climate functions.
The BMW iNext will feature the automaker’s fifth-generation eDrive system which is tipped to offer up to 530 horsepower and a high-density, lightweight 80-kWh battery pack good for a range of around 400 miles (or about 640 km). Thanks to the mighty powertrain and the e-AWD system, the electric SUV should do 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in under 4 seconds.
The BMW iNext is expected to enter production in early 2021 under a name that has yet to be confirmed.
