The Maserati MC20’s curvaceous body has been previewed in a teaser video released by the Italian automaker over the weekend.
Stripped of all camo but shown in a dark background, the mid-engine sports car will have the traditional grille up front, flanked by vertical headlamps as well as two large air intakes on the sides that will keep the power unit cool. Horizontal taillights and two central exhaust pipes are also part of the package
While the design promises to be stunning, the icing on the cake will be found under the hood. As Maserati has already confirmed, the MC20 will feature a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine which weighs less than 485 pounds (220 kg) and was developed using F1 tech as well as many Ferrari and Alfa Romeo components.

The V6 produces 621 horsepower (629 PS / 463 kW) at 7,500 rpm and 538 pound-feet (730 Nm) of torque between 3,000 and 5,500 rpm, linked to a Getrag eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The six-cylinder unit might eventually find its way into other Maseratis, the Trident brand hinted, while the MC20 should embrace electrification, in the form of hybrid and zero-emission models.
The Italian sports car is understood to be built on a carbon tub, similar to the Alfa Romeo 4C, though with bigger proportions dictated by a longer wheelbase for enhanced cabin space and more room behind the seats for the larger engine.
Maserati’s MC20 is bound to make a big splash in the segment when it comes out on September 9 at an event hosted in Modena; it will also allow the brand to return to the world of racing.
