The coronavirus pandemic had put a pin in the launch of the 2021 Suzuki Ignis in Europe, but the versatile city car is finally on sale in the United Kingdom, half a year after it was unveiled.

Three grades, dubbed the SZ3, SZ-T and SZ5, are up for grabs, with pricing starting at £13,999 ($18,293). Standard gear consists of 15-inch wheels, LED headlamps, air conditioning, DAB radio with Bluetooth, rear privacy glass and body-colored side mirror caps.

The SZ5 brings climate control, sat-nav, rear electric windows, front fog lamps, keyless entry&go, lane departure warning, weaving alert and dual camera brake support.

Power comes from the new 1.2-liter engine that produces 82 HP (83 PS / 61 kW) and 79 lb-ft (107 Nm) of torque. The integrated starter generator adds 3 HP (3 PS / 2.3 kW) and 37 lb-ft (50 Nm), with a 10 Ah lithium-ion battery also on deck. Standard front-wheel drive models have a manual transmission, whereas the CVT is available as an option.

The company’s AllGrip four-wheel drive system can be specified to the range-topping SZ5 model and works in conjunction with the stick shift. The system includes Grip Control that activates on slippery surfaces at speeds of less than 18 mph (29 km/h) and Hill Descent Control that can be switched on by the driver when the car is traveling on an incline at under 15 mph (24 km/h) in first or second gear.

This version of the facelifted Ignis returns 51.9 mpg UK (43.2 mpg US / 5.4 l/100 km) and emits 123 g/km of CO2 combined in the WLTP cycle. The FWD manual models have an average fuel consumption of 55.7 mpg UK (46.4 mpg US / 5.1 l/100 km) and CO2 emissions of 114 g/km.

In the styling department, the trapezoidal garnishes for the bumpers and the new grille are part of the mid-cycle refresh, along with the Tough Khaki Pearl Metallic, Rush Yellow Metallic and Caravan Ivory Pearl Metallic paint finishes. Inside, ithe 2021 Ignis features an upgraded infotainment system and new instrument cluster, as well as Lazuli Medium Blue Pearl and Medium Grey Metallic accent colors.
