A custom 1966 Mercedes-Benz 600 LWB Pullman ‘Four-Door’ once owned by China’s former foreign minister and Shanghai mayor, Chen Yi, has found its way to the United States and is currently up for sale in Philadelphia.
It is understood that Chen Yi ordered the car as part of a government plan in the 1960s to study its design, deconstruct it, and eventually make China’s own version of the extremely luxurious limousine. There were only ever 304 Pullman ‘Four Door’ models produced, and this is one of just two to have been delivered new to China.
The listing over at LBI Limited doesn’t state when the car was imported into the United States but does confirm the rare limousine is in its original condition and has never been restored. It has 21,186 km (13,164 miles) on the clock and is one surefire way to attract attention on the street.

Mercedes-Benz produced the 600 range of models between 1963 and 1981 and the limousine variants proved very popular among government officials, particularly in Germany. A special limousine model with a landaulet roof was even used by the Pope. In addition to the four-door model, there were also six-door limousine variants produced. As for what’s powering this limo, that would be a 6.3-liter V8 that puts out 247 hp and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque.
Both the exterior and interior of this car look to be in excellent condition. Admittedly, there are some signs of wear on the leather upholstery, but that’s to be expected given its age. As for the asking price, it sits at $285,000.
