The new 2021 Acura TLX Sport Sedan has officially entered series-production at the company’s Ohio plant, with the first examples set to arrive at dealers on September 28.
The new Acura TLX Sport Sedan is based on a brand-exclusive platform that’s engineered for high performance, particularly in the case of the reborn Type S variant.
Acura is particularly proud of the new TLX, claiming that this will be “the quickest, best-handling and most well-appointed sport sedan in the brand’s 35-year history”.

The range will include two powertrains, with the base TLX featuring a 2.0-liter VTEC Turbo with 272 HP (276 PS) and 280 lb-ft (379 Nm) of torque and a ten-speed automatic transmission. Customers will be able to opt for Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system as an option.
The range-topping 2021 Acura TLX Type S is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 Turbo which is expected to produce 355 HP and 354 lb-ft (480 Nm) of torque. It will be also paired to a ten-speed automatic transmission and the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system as standard but you’ll have to wait until next spring when it will be officially launched.
“On behalf of everyone who designed and developed this amazing 2021 Acura TLX, seeing the first vehicle roll off the assembly line is a dream come true,” said Marc Ernst, TLX global development leader. “This TLX epitomizes Acura’s focus on performance and premium quality, and the passion of both our development and manufacturing teams here in Ohio are embodied in the product that we’re delivering to our Acura customers.”
The new Acura TLX is built using a high-accuracy body weld process and high-performance adhesive, leading to the most rigid body ever for an Acura sedan. The 2021 TLX is also the first Acura to feature a laser brazed roof, a new process that joins the roof to the body side panels without the need for a garnish over the rain channels.
Prices for the 2021 Acura TLX start from $37,500 for the base 2.0 T model and from $39,500 for the AWD version. Acura will release the pricing and full technical details of the TLX Type S model closer to its launch date.
