With an ever-growing number of car manufacturers turning to electrification for their new models, it seems inevitable that we will soon have high-end electric SUVs on the market offering supercar levels of performance. Could Ferrari offer such a model?
It is no secret that the Italian car manufacturer is currently developing its first SUV, dubbed the Purosangue, which is Italian for ‘thoroughbred.’ Like Ferrari’s current models, it will feature an internal combustion engine and not an all-electric powertrain. These renderings show what an electric hyper SUV from Maranello could look like were it to ever see the light of day.
The overall shape of the bodywork is the first thing that strikes you. For starters, there is an extraordinarily low roofline that more closely resembles that of a sports car than a traditional SUV. The striking looks continue at the front, where you’ll find a pair of thin LED headlights and no grille.

This creation comes from designer Joaquin Obligado and matches the striking front end and sleek roofline with a taught rear end that includes thin LED taillights and a third brake light on the bumper.
While the Purosangue won’t be an EV, it is shaping up to be a very good performer. It has been rumored that the SUV could be based on the same platform as the Roma and be offered with V6 and V8 engines, while a plug-in hybrid is also possible.
The first hyper SUV with an electric powertrain bound to hit the market is the Pininfarina Pura Vision, which is tipped to have four electric motors and 1,000 hp.
