Chevrolet has updated the popular Malibu XL mid-size sedan in China by introducing a new powertrain.
Sold alongside the 1.3-liter and 2.0-liter turbocharged units, which are mated to a CVT and a 9-speed automatic transmission respectively, the new mill has 1.5 liters in displacement, direct-injection and turbocharging, and comes paired to a 9-speed Hydra-Matic automatic gearbox.
The 1,490 cc lump produces 166 HP (168 PS / 124 kW) at 5,600 rpm and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque between 1,700 and 4,400 rpm, which are good for a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration of 9.1 seconds and a 127 mph (205 km/h) top speed. The automaker claims that it returns 37.3 mpg US (6.3 l/100 km) on average, and 49 mpg (4.8 l/100 km) while cruising the highway at a constant speed of 56 mph (90 km/h).
