The coronavirus pandemic has cancelled countless auto shows and left automakers scrambling to find new ways to introduce their vehicles.
The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance was originally slated for this weekend, but it too was cancelled. However, it’s going digital as the Petersen Automotive Museum is holding an online event called Petersen Car Week.
It’s set to host seven or eight debuts including two from BMW. The first is slated to take place sometime today, while the second will occur on Friday. There’s no word on what they are, but they could potentially be concepts, special editions or new variants of existing models. There’s also the slim chance that one could be the 4-Series Convertible.
Ford is also getting in on the action as they’ll introduce a new vehicle on August 16th. The teaser image shows a Ford GT and it’s believed the car will be a new special edition. While nothing is official, the company usually introduces the GT Heritage Edition in August so they could potentially show the 2021 Heritage Edition this weekend.
The other debuts are less high profile as they will include introductions from Gunther Werks, Xing and auxiliary lighting company KC. The remaining one or two debuts – Peterson gave conflicting numbers – remain a mystery, but could potentially be something from Chevrolet or Porsche.
If we were to guess, we’d put our money on a special edition Corvette as a C8 event is scheduled for tomorrow and the company apparently teased the Stingray R earlier this month.
