Ford has issued three safety recalls in North America for more than half a million vehicles.

Announced due to the front brake jounce hoses that could rupture, leading to brake fluid leak and increasing the brake pedal travel, which reduces the rate of deceleration and poses a high safety risk, the first recall concerns certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX.

The action includes 488,594 vehicles in the United States and federalized territories, 62,876 in Canada and 7,140 in Mexico. All were built at Oakville, with the Edge being part of the lot made from June 25, 2014, to December 21, 2017, and the MKX between November 11, 2014 and December 21, 2017.

Dealers will replace the hoses with new ones that feature revised braid material and all work will be carried out free of charge.

A total of 2,965 units of the 2020 Lincoln Corsair in the United States and federalized territories, 491 in Canada and 141 in Mexico, made at Louisville from January 7 to October 21, 2019, are included in the second safety recall.

These may have insufficient clearance between the left and right coil springs and toe link bracket, which could wear out the protective coating of the springs thus allowing for corrosion which would reduce their life, resulting in premature fractures. The springs could separate from the vehicle, becoming a potential hazard and increasing the risk of accidents and injuries.

Technicians will inspect the cars, trimming the toe link bracket edge and installing new springs if needed at no cost to owners.

The third and final recall affects 431 F-150s made at Kansas from June 30 to July 1, 2020. These may have been assembled with an improper attachment nut that fastens the positive battery cable (B+) to the starter motor, which could lead to extra heat generated during the start cycle. In extreme cases, an electrical arc could form, increasing the risk of fire.

Ford’s dealers will replace the starter motor B+ power supply attachment nut free of charge.
