Update: Ford North America product communications manager Mike Levine told us that: “This is an Imagine entertainment movie. We did not produce it. We provided access to our archives for the movie. And they were also allowed access to Ford World Headquarters but Imagine has produced the entire film.”

The 2021 Bronco is months away from launching, but the model is a bonafide hit as Ford has already received more than 150,000 pre-orders.

While most companies would call it at that, Ford has apparently decided to get weird. Really, weird.

As if the Bronco hasn’t already gotten enough attention, there’s a bizarre marketing campaign to find John Bronco. According to the teaser video, John Bronco was a “rodeo rider, a racing champion, a sex symbol and the greatest pitchman in history.”

However, John Bronco “mysteriously disappeared” in 1996 so there’s a hunt to find him. Besides a documentary-style teaser, there’s a Facebook page with memorabilia featuring the famous pitchman.

Among the items are a 1962 copy of Rodeo Sports News, a box of BroncO’s cereal and ads where John promoted the Bronco in Iceland. The page also features old Bronco footage and apparently real information about classic Broncos.

That’s a lot of effort for a joke marketing campaign, but it has been going on for months under the radar. The page was created on December 12th, 2019 and didn’t get much attention until the video was retweeted by Ford’s North American Product Communications Manager Mike Levine. Of course, attention doesn’t away mean popularity as the Facebook page has just 43 likes and 47 followers.
