This year’s Indy 500 recently wrapped up, but that hasn’t stopped designer Samir Sadikhov from imagining what a futuristic IndyCar could look like.
In dreaming up this design, Sadikhov created it for road course racing, meaning it has been equipped with a high-downforce kit. Aerodynamicist Sébastien Sorne and car interior designer Guillermo Mignot also helped with the concept.
The shape of the racer is dramatically different than current vehicles racing in Indy. Up front, the wheels remain exposed but there is a unique nose and front wing aimed at producing as much downforce as possible. Sadikhov’s design also has a see-through canopy over the driver, as opposed to the ‘Aeroscreen’ that current IndyCar vehicles are using. Not only does having a closed cockpit look better and is safer for drivers, but we suspect it also helps with aerodynamics.

At the rear, things are just as wild as they are at the front, thanks in no small part to the swan-neck rear wing and the aggressive rear diffuser.
Inside, there is a carbon fiber shell racing seat and a complex steering wheel with heaps of switches, gauges, and buttons. The designer decided to give the car a bespoke livery for Fernando Alonso, further adding to its appeal.
Speaking of Alonso, he did not have the weekend he was hoping for at the 2020 Indy 500. Following a poor qualifying, the Spaniard finished in a lowly 21st, while Japanese driver Takuma Sato claimed victory in what was his second Indy 500 win.
