The Gordon Murray T.50 is finally here and in the videos below, we get the opportunity to take an in-depth look at what Murray claims is the most driver-centric supercar ever.
These videos come from Top Gear, Harry’s Garage and Carfection and both include in-depth interviews with Gordon Murray himself. In them, he discusses the T.50 as well as its spiritual predecessor, the McLaren F1.
Top Gear’s interview is particularly interesting as it brought along the McLaren F1 prototype which Murray himself used to own. Looking back on the F1, Murray says it has a great number of faults, one of the most significant of which is the fact that it uses a fuel cell rather than a traditional fuel tank. This cell needs to be frequently replaced and is extremely expensive.

As for the new T.50, Murray says he has improved on everything from the F1 and this reflects in the overall philosophy of the car. Whereas most supercars have grown in size and weight in recent years, the T.50 is roughly the same size as a Porsche Boxster and weighs a mere 2,174 lbs (986 kg) dry.
Then there is the engine. Rather than opting for a big-capacity powertrain, the T.50 uses a Cosworth-designed 3.9-liter naturally-aspirated V12 with 654 hp and 344 lb-ft (467 Nm) of torque. That’s more than enough for a vehicle that weighs so little. This engine also revs to 12,100 rpm, making it the highest-revving production car engine, and can rev from idle to redline in just 0.3 seconds. Mated to the engine is a six-speed manual transmission.
