A more off-road-focused variant of the Ford Ranger is said to be in the works for the U.S. market.

Reportedly dubbed the Ranger Tremor, the new model will follow in the footsteps of the F-Series Super Duty Tremor and offer improved off-roading credentials over the existing Ranger with the FX4 package.

According to Ford Authority, the Ranger Tremor will sport a re-designed front end to improve the approach angle and rock a set of tubular, high-clearance running boards. The pickup should also land with a unique set of wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich All-Terrain tires and will sport Tremor script graphics at the back.

Details regarding potential suspension upgrades remain unconfirmed, but the publication suggests Ford could install larger shocks and also jack up the truck’s ground clearance.

Driving the Ranger Tremor will be Ford’s familiar 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder that is rated at 270 hp and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque. This engine will be coupled to a 10-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive as standard.

Ford Authority understands the Tremor will be offered as a package on at least the Ranger Lariat and Ranger XLT grades. It obviously won’t go as far as the Ranger Raptor, but should act as a nice middle ground between the FX4 and the Raptor and offer Ford buyers something similar to the Ranger Wildtrak that’s sold in Australia and New Zealand as well as the Ranger Storm that’s available in South America.
