The beloved Knight Rider series is being made into a feature film and that can only mean one thing, KITT will return.

Everyone’s favorite talking car was a Pontiac Firebird during the original 1980s TV series and helped driver Michael Knight, played by David Hasselhoff, fight crime.

Limited details about the film are known but Deadline reports that it will be a present-day take on the series. The film will be directed by James Wan while former video game writer TJ Fixman will be the writer behind the film.

“Knight Rider was one of my favourite shows as a kid, so this feels like I just stepped through a time portal and high-fived my 8-year old self,” Fixman said in a tweet after the new film was confirmed.

Given that the Knight Rider film will be set in the current day, it seems likely that KITT won’t be a classic Pontiac Firebird and could instead by something more modern.

Just what will the new KITT look like? Well, it is impossible to say for sure but we suspect it will be a two-door like the original while also being painted black. There are a seemingly endless number of modern two-door sports cars that filmmakers could choose from but something with U.S. origins would probably make the most sense. It’s also reasonable to expect that the cabin of KITT will no longer be dominated by a countless array of flashing lights and instead use the types of high-definition touchscreen panels that are now commonplace on modern cars.
