Development of the long-awaited Mercedes-AMG One hypercar has reached a new milestone with prototypes now running their full output of over 1,000 hp during track testing.
The F1-powered hybrid hypercar was first unveiled in 2017 but difficulties in getting its engine ready for road-use have delayed the project. These issues have since been resolved and the One is being tested at Mercedes-Benz’s proving ground in Immendingen, Germany.
In particularly exciting news, Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the AMG One will soon start testing at the Nürburgring. Does this mean the German automaker will attempt to set a new production car lap record with the car?

At this stage, it is hard to say for sure, but it’s worth keeping in mind lots of high-performance cars are tested at the Nurburgring without ever attempting to chase records. However, given just how much performance is being offered by the AMG One, we’d be shocked if Mercedes didn’t want the world to know just how fast it is.
Outgoing Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers told the media two years ago that with some modifications to the One’s aerodynamics, the removal of the air conditioner, and the fitment of slick tires, it could chase the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo’s outright record of 5:19.546. In road-going spec, we would be shocked if the AMG One didn’t beat the production car lap record of 6:44.97 held by the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ.
As a reminder, the car features an F1-derived 1.6-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine and four electric motors for a total output of more than 1,000 horsepower.
