According to some experts as well as many fans of the brand, one of the main reasons why Tesla is so successful around the globe is because of its focus on technology more so than vehicle manufacturing. Sort of a high-tech gadget on wheels, if you will.
However, according to Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath, his company can excel in both categories, and the Polestar 2 EV is the key to their strategy. “We would not say we are building a mobile device on wheels,” argued Ingenlath. “But on the other hand, we are not a traditional automaker.”
His goal is for his company to be as highly regarded for its technology as it is for its commitment to vehicle manufacturing, Autonews Europe reports.
“We combined the traditional craftsmanship of building cars, with having Google as our partner for developing the infotainment system and to offering over-the-air updates,” Ingenlath told reporters during a video conference last month. “That combination is very intriguing.”

Meanwhile, a Polestar spokesman said that the initial response to the Polestar 2 has been so good that the carmaker’s national sales teams in Germany, the Netherlands and Norway have nearly sold out their allotments for this year.”We expect the supply to not be sufficient for the demand,” said Polestar Germany exec Alexander Lutz during a separate video call.
Aside from Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK, the Polestar 2 is also available in the United States, Canada and China.
Powering the Swedish-branded EV is a 78 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, working alongside 150 kW electric motors (one for each axle). The total output is 402 HP (408 PS) and 487 lb-ft (660 Nm) of torque.
