Ford and the Team Fordzilla esports team have come together to create a wild hypercar known as the P1 concept. While it has the same name as a particularly famous McLaren, the Ford remains firmly cemented in the virtual world.

The Team Fordzilla P1 concept was created with fan votes on Twitter made at various points during the design process. For example, gamers decided on key elements such as the seating position, cockpit-style and drivetrain before designers brought all these elements together for a finished car. Two finished designs were put forward in a pole with the car from Ford exterior designer Arturo Ariño emerging victorious.

Ariño took some design inspiration from the Ford GT and morphed it into a vehicle that would perform well both on the high-speed straights of Le Mans as well as tighter circuits like Monaco. The front fascia is particularly wild and includes vertical LED headlights and pronounced wheel arches that almost sit higher than the cockpit itself.

The wild design elements continue at the rear where the wheels are left exposed but below them sits an innovative diffuser while above the wheels is an intriguing wing.

“Motorsport is such a fundamental part of what we do when we wake up at Ford,” Ford’s chief operating officer Jim Farley said during the P1 concept’s virtual debut. “We’re not in a lot of forms of racing now, intentionally, but we invested heavily in the likes of Ken Block, producing media for enthusiasts. And I believe the virtual world is the most important area for us to develop new thinking that applies to our production vehicles.”
