SpeedKore is best known for creating hardcore Challengers and Chargers, but their latest project is a bit different.
We’re talking about this 1974 BMW 3.0 CS which is the tuner’s first European model. It was built for Robert Downey Jr. who has previously tapped SpeedKore to build a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro and a 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302.
According to the company, Downey approached them with the idea of melding modern materials with classic European styling. That being said, this isn’t your typical SpeedKore build as the car “predominantly” keeps its metal body. However, there’s still plenty of carbon fiber including the bumpers and rockers.

The car also features a custom paint job, a woodgrain beltline and Cerakoted titanium grey accents. Other highlights include a custom rear spoiler and forged HRE wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tires. They’re backed up by a Brembo braking system which has six-piston calipers up front and four-piston calipers out back.
The unique styling continues in the cabin as SpeedKore and Gabe’s Custom Interiors created an Italian-inspired cockpit with coffee-colored leather as well as seats that feature “pebble weave” inserts. There’s also a retro-inspired dashboard with Classic Instruments gauges, a hidden touchscreen infotainment system and wraparound wood trim.
Elsewhere, there’s a Lamborghini-inspired grab handle and an upholstered trunk which holds a leather-wrapped Yeti cooler. Downey also had the rear seat removed and replaced by a “custom packing shelf, complete with matched luggage.”
Power is provided by a naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine which was sourced from an E34 M5. SpeedKore didn’t go into specifics, but the S38 engine had displacements of 3.5- and 3.8-liters depending on the model year and market.
Assuming the engine was pulled from a US-spec M5, it’s likely a 3.5-liter inline-six developing 311 hp (232 kW / 315 PS) and 266 lb-ft (360 Nm) of torque. Regardless, it’s mated to a four-speed automatic transmission.
