There’s an estimated 10 quintillion insects in the world and some of them will undoubtedly find their way into your vehicle.
While most people are worried about the occasional bee or wasp that flies through an open window, it appears this driver was more concerned about a spider.
Details are limited, but the Isle of Wight Police says the driver was “trying to remove a spider” when they crashed into a light pole. There’s no word on whether or not they have arachnophobia, but the driver was distracted enough that they apparently jumped a small curb and plowed into the pole head-on.

As you can see, the car suffered extensive front end damage as the hood and bumper were destroyed by the collision. Given it’s an economy car on steelies, it might not be worth fixing.
Police said the driver suffered minor injuries, but they posted the incident on social media to remind people to keep their eyes on the road as there are “lots of distractions around at this time of year.” It’s also worth noting that, had the pole not been there, the driver could have continued drifting into oncoming traffic.
There’s no word on whether or not the driver was ticketed it, but the crash wasn’t the only unusual incident faced by police. Earlier today, they posted about an unexploded mortar from World War Two that was discovered in a field. While responding to that incident, a “couple of ‘kids’ caused damage to one of our police vehicles.”
Those ‘kids’ turned out to be goats, who decided to have a little bit of fun on the roof of a BMW 2-Series Active Tourer.
