The Volkswagen ID.3 has broken its official WLTP range by driving from Zwickau, Germany, to Schaffhausen, Switzerland, on a single charge.
The 330-mile (531-kilometer) journey, with 44% recorded on highways and 56% on country roads, was completed in around 9 hours, with an average speed of 35 mph (56 km/h).
As a result, the series production ID.3 1st Pro Performance model used in this test, which featured the 58 kWh battery, exceeded the official WLTP range of 261 miles (420 km) by 69 miles (111 km). The car averaged 10.9 kWh / 62 miles (100 km) on the very economical drive, which had several auxiliary consumers, such as the DRLs, navigation system, radio and HVAC either temporarily or permanently in operation.

“The car has everything, it is compact, but spacious, has a cool, almost futuristic design and a low drag coefficient”, said Felix Egolf, the driver. “With its high-volt battery, efficient drivetrain and fast-charging capability, even long journeys are not a problem”, added the Managing Director of Technology and Logistics at Volkswagen Sachsen, Reinhard de Vries. “This is also a strong message for the team in Zwickau and for the entire ID. team.”
Priced from €38,986.72 ($46,027) in Germany, a €3,411.77 ($4,028) premium over the base model, the limited ID.3 1st Edition boasts an electric motor with 201 HP (204 PS / 150 kW) and 229 lb-ft (310 Nm) of torque available on tap. 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) comes in 7.3 seconds while top speed is limited to 100 mph (160 km/h). The range-topping 77 kWh battery pack option increases the range to 342 miles (550 km), according to the WLTP cycle.
